Reporting to the Head of International & New Business, this position will play a major role in growing the brand of Borussia Dortmund in the USA. The Business Development Manager USA is responsible for coordinating & controlling the Borussia Dortmund ecosystem in the US, including strategic service partners such as Lagardère Sport.

Borussia Dortmund is seeking to secure cooperations that deliver on both revenue and most important brand objectives. Through the deep understanding of the Borussia Dortmund brand and club attributes, this individual will seek partners that will positively promote and expose them and help build its brand awareness and fanbase across the US. The individual will support increasing the awareness of Borussia Dortmund’s commercial proposition and brand across the US by extending the network of key stakeholders and influencers.

The position will require frequent travels to the US and the individual will be expected to carry out the role with a degree of flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting strategy development for the Borussia Dortmund brand image in the US
  • Building and increasing awareness of the Borussia Dortmund brand in the US by expanding the network among interest groups (media, corporations) and opinion-makers
  • Controlling & coordination of service partners such as Lagardère Sports
  • Identifying and approaching potential partners that could support Borussia Dortmund in building its brand and fanbase in the US
  • Open up new revenue streams by approaching and acquiring new corporate partners in the US
  • This position will require frequent travel (40-50% travelling effort)


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum four years’ experience in a business development role at brands from the sports or the media industry, ideally with a US focus
  • Minimum one year of work experience abroud
  • Business knowledge ideally across the US and Europe
  • Experience in managing projects, demonstrating time management and attention to detail
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; fluency in German language is highly advantageous
  • Educated to degree level
  • Self-starter and naturally confident, proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Conceptual skills and an understanding of brand dynamics and consumer trends
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A passion or empathy with sport/sports entertainment
